Landing

The waves becoming taller and more powerful the nearer to they got to the break as they pushed the tiny boat toward the shore. The boat went out of control and it struck the shore hard, capsizing and throwing the group toward the beach.

Sasha screamed, “Grab the boat! We can’t lose it or we are lost!” Too late… they could only watch as the waves drew the small boat away from the shore and pulled it into the darkness.

The Landing

The group stood and desperately attempted to follow the boat with their eyes, but soon they could no longer see it hidden among the rough waves.

Their clothes soaked up the saltwater and rain as they looked around their new surroundings. It appeared to be a craggy beach with piles of debris, flotsam and jetsam washed up from recent storms.

They searched for anything worthwhile or useful to their survival among the piles of refuse piled up by the waves.. Doric was able find a rusty knife with its tip stuck into the top of a crate. They used this knife and some wood they collected to make crude weapons to arm themselves against possible dangers to come.

Exploring the area

Later, in the light of the moon, the group explored the shore up to the tree line. Taking a breather and collecting themselves, they stopped amongst several wrecked crates and a few barrels in various states of destruction.

Doric used some sail fragments they found and a long stick to fashion himself a spear by mounting the knife to one end. With this and their other scavenged weapons, they felt somewhat more confident they could protect themselves from whatever might be out in the darkness. Sasha started to gather wood by breaking down some of the crates in hopes of making a fire.

The rats appear, to attack the Gowdawn Explorer’s

As soon as she began, rats swarmed out of the crates and immediately began to attack Doric and Cedris. With the rats chittering and biting, the party attempted to defended themselves, striking out at the hungry swarm with their crudely made weapons.

The Lead Rat

With his arms up, protecting his face from the frenzy of teeth and claws, Doric was knocked down when he tripped over some debris as a rat jumped at him.

Sasha and Cedris were able to kill many of the creatures, clubbing them senseless. El-dris started chanting words of power and small pillars of flame engulfed two masses of the rat swarm.

Doric, in grave condition, lay on the ground bleeding. Cedris prayed to the Sun God to heal Doric and a flash of light sealed some of the worst of his wounds. As he attempted to stand, the largest of the rats sensing his vulnerability, flung itself upon him once again.

Doric attempted to stab at the rat, but the knife slipped free of the spear and fell to the ground. He flipped the shaft to a two-handed grip and with a mighty roar, he swung it down at the rat. But the rat was quick to dodge. Instead he struck the ground, snapping his staff in half. Sasha swung her own club with more success, breaking the giant rat’s leg, while Cedris finished it off with his staff.

Gasping for air, Cedris in the shock of his first combat, wretches violently in the direction of the unfortunate Sasha. She pushed him away yelling, “What in the hell, Cedris! Get away from me.”

Doric came over and slapped the young cleric on the back as he continued to heave. “Well done my friend.” Doric said, keeping well behind him.

Sasha grouchily cleaned herself up in the ocean, scrubbing the vomit off her already ragged clothes. Always practical, she then picked up the knife along with several rat carcasses. She set in to skinning and cleaning them. Cedris asked her, “What do you plan to do with those.”

“Eat them.” she said without looking up. “I don’t know about you but I’m starving. Unless you have something else to eat?” Cedric looked none too pleased and perhaps a little green, but said nothing.

Doric successfully started a fire with the scorched wood from the fight and began looking around in the dim light. The party was still nervous, starting and looking around at every noise. They did not think they could fight anymore that night. They were starving and tired, still shaking off whatever drug the ship’s crew had given them to keep them sedated. But the rat meat was soon cooked and surprisingly delicious. Soon they began to feel more optimistic.
